Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what Discern collects, what it does not, and how your information is handled. In plain terms: your discernment is yours, and it stays on your device.
What stays on your device
The people you add, your notes, your reflections, your standards, and your prayer list are stored on your device. We do not upload them to our servers, and we cannot read them. This is the heart of how Discern is built: your private discernment stays private.
The faith-friendly companion
When you use the in-app companion, the message you send is processed by a secure service so the companion can reply. The companion is powered by leading AI models from providers such as OpenAI and Google, and your message is sent to one of these providers only to generate a response. Messages are used to produce that reply. They are not used to identify you and are not sold to anyone. As with any chat assistant, avoid sharing details you would not want processed by a third-party service.
Information we do not collect
Discern does not require an account to use its core features. We do not ask for your contacts, we do not track you across other apps and websites, and we do not sell personal information.
Subscriptions and the App Store
If you subscribe, the purchase is handled by Apple through your Apple Account. We receive the information Apple provides to manage your subscription. We never see your card or payment details. Apple's own privacy terms cover that part of the process.
Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the app and this website are used in aggregate, so we can improve them. This does not identify you personally.
Children
Discern is intended for adults dating with marriage in mind. It is not directed at children.
